Who We Are
A community of dedicated makers
Our artisans are the heart of Cerita Ceramic. Each craftsperson brings a unique background — from formal fine-arts training to knowledge passed down through generations of village potters. What unites them is a shared commitment to quality, authenticity, and the living heritage of Indonesian ceramic art.

Craft Process
From raw earth to finished form
01
Clay Selection
We source premium stoneware clay from local suppliers in Java, choosing materials for their texture, plasticity, and fired strength.
02
Shaping
Each piece is thrown on a wheel or hand-built using traditional coiling and slab techniques, depending on the form and the artisan's vision.
03
Bisque Firing
After drying slowly to prevent cracking, pieces are fired in the kiln at 1000°C to harden the clay before glazing.
04
Glazing & Final Fire
Glazes — many made in-house from natural minerals — are hand-applied before a final glaze firing at 1200–1280°C to create the finished surface.
Specialisations
Our craft repertoire
Wheel Throwing
The classic potter's technique — centring clay on a spinning wheel to draw up symmetrical, graceful forms.
Hand Building
Pinching, coiling, and slab construction for sculptural and asymmetric forms that celebrate the human touch.
Natural Glazing
Glazes formulated from wood ash, iron oxide, and local minerals create surfaces with depth and organic variation.
Heritage Motifs
Batik-inspired patterns, Javanese florals, and Lombok weave-influenced textures applied with fine brushwork.
